- I have a desktop computer. I was playing an old game at the time. I think it broke because there was a big scratch on it and when it was spinning it got wore out and it started to scratch more and from there I think it just busted. I need to get a friend that knows computers to come over and look at it and see if he can open it.

- There are some gears in the mechanism that opens and closes the tray so it's definitely a good idea to make sure no bits are stuck anywhere inside the drive. They might also disrupt the laser that reads the disc. Btw was the disc in question a DVD or CD? CD's usually spin much faster and are also less durable. Same thing happened years ago to a friend of a friend with his top-of-the-line (in terms of speed at least) CD-drive.

- If were talking about a desktop PC then yeah, you should be able to open it with a screwdriver after taking the whole unit out from the PC case. Dont' know about laptops though. If you're worried that the same might happen again, you should get a program that can limit the maximum speed of the drive like Nero DriveSpeed.

- I got my disc drive to open it was stuck on a piece of disc. It opens and closes fine now but I'm afraid to use it because off all of those disc fragments that are in my drive. Should I test a disc out? Or is it possible to open it up?

- I have a problem. I was playing a game on the PC when all of a sudden a loud noise made me jump from my seat came from my disc drive. So I open it up and there is a piece of the disc left and the other pieces I can't find. Now the disc drive won't open up fully anymore and I'm afraid to put anything else in there. Is there anything I can do besides getting another disc drive?
