  • The Professor Layton series is a great collection of puzzles in an entertaining story that keeps it from being stale. Even though the puzzles are sometimes presented in a contrived way ("Speaking of brown boots during rainy weather in a village, boy do I have a puzzle for you!") there's enough variety to keep it interesting.

As with any game that has 200+ puzzles, you're bound to find some that are just poorly explained or are ridiculously easy and barely constitute a puzzle but for the most part, they're engaging enough to be fun with a hint system to keep you moving along.

By the way, you don't get anything at the end of the game for not using hint coins so do use it if you're stuck!

Finally, they have puzzles every week for download to keep the game interesting after you finish it, too. I find these puzzles generally harder than the game ones, which I appreciated.

  • I think I was hoping for a bit more or perhaps I'm just older now and don't have the level of patience I used to. Monkey Island is definitely fantastic as always and the writing is humorous and engaging.

There are a few nitpicks that bothered me sufficiently to keep me from really enjoying it. One of those being Part 3 where the topological map gave no hint to the places I needed to go to and thus making it into either a pixel hunting game or my resorting to hints.

Having said that, the built-in hint system is a great addition to any adventure game ;)

  • I've never played Defense of the Ancients, the predecessor of this game but I'm playing the beta and it's really easy to get into, has gorgeous graphics, and easily has a lot of replay with the already wide variety of Champions.

  • If you enjoy games like The Incredible Machine or the more recent Enigmo, this is definitely the game for you.

You play the character Eets who is a very hungry little creature and your goal is to guide Eets and help him get to the goals by eating various kinds of marshmallows, getting spit out by whales, using flying explosive super piglets and more.

The main mechanic is that Eets changes mood (angry, happy, scared) based on the things that happen to him and his mood affects how he moves through a level.

Unlike the newer games that try to clone good ol' Incredible Machine, Eets has a lot of personality. Every character is worth a chuckle and the music is catchy and fun. The level design and art style are also very stylized and unique.

Eets: Chowdown is really two games in one, too. There's a separate mode called Marshomadness which up to 4 players can play simultaneously on the same Xbox co-operatively. It's essentially a typing game with your controller but that simplicity gets insane very, very quickly. In some ways, I like this mode even more.

Lastly, Eets: Chowdown is a great game because I managed to sneak into the credits.

  • This game is so insanely addictive. It's essentially another defense game but the concept alone is noteworthy. How could you go wrong? Nature vs Undead!

In terms of gameplay, it really has a lot of replayability. In addition to the layered complexity of the game as you go through the levels, there are plenty of mini-games and puzzles to engage in. Zombie bowling, slot machine and even a mode where you play the zombies!

I'm pretty sure I'll end up spending more time on this game than many $60 games I've purchased.

  • This game is so addictive. It became a really big competition at Raptr which inevitably led to Thresh dominating of course. There are definitely some games that are easier than others. Rather than hoping to get the easier ones, you might want to just upgrade to pro ;)

For some people, I know that an option to be able to play the game but not share their score with others would have been preferred (not everyone is as competitive as Raptr tends to be ).

  • Maybe I'm missing the appeal. I find it fun enough but with the number of people playing it, I really expected a lot more out of it. Perhaps it's also because I'm still getting a feel over how to make it more about skill than luck.

I have to say I do get a kick out of the zooming in closeups when you get near the last red peg. That's highly entertaining and a stroke of genius. The Fever music though gets obnoxious very very quickly.

  • I resisted this game for a long time. I felt the storytelling prose was contrived and the character art didn't appeal to me. Granted, the background art and the music and innovative puzzles were unique and beautiful but I just couldn't get into it.

But when I finally did, I have to say it's final more »ly caught a hold of me. When I solve a puzzle, I find myself wide-eyed and impressed at the puzzle and feeling like I'd actually accomplished something. Somehow, it has thus far just dodged being frustrating and that's what's necessary to remain great.

  • Very addictive but repetitive. I played it a bunch but then figured out a system that seemed to work no matter what. At Level 100 I just got bored of it.

  • I played this in Hong Kong as my dad has the Japanese version and it's incredibly fun. I'll have to upload some videos my brother took of our family members doing virtual hula hoops or racing around a track. I definitely plan on getting it when it comes out in the US.
