  Bioware has surpassed their work on the original Mass Effect in every way. They've taken the elements of the first game that worked against it, and re-worked them from the ground up. The environments look distinct. The irksome driving segments are completely excised. The horrible inventory manag more »ement is a thing of the past and the clunky cover-based shooting combat has been vastly improved for the sequel. But beyond fixing the things that didn't work, they improved on the things that did as well. The Renegade/Paragon system feels far more natural, as you can take actions in both directions without penalizing yourself. Conversation sequences occasionally allow you to interrupt them by taking either a 'Paragon' or 'Renegade' action as easily as pulling the left or right trigger. The selection of characters is diverse, and feels more compelling all around than the first crew of the Normandy. Even the returning characters from the first game have moved on with their lives. Some will join you, and some won't. If you still have your saved games from Mass Effect, importing your character will tailor your experience based on your choices in that game. You'll get messages from characters you helped or spoke to during Shepard's first expedition - and you'll meet many more who refer to how you interacted with them before. This game had me hooked from the opening cinematic, which has to be seen to believed and it's kept me for 25 hours so far - and I'm not finished yet. « less
