I'd like to think I'm not a "gamer" in the sense that all I do is play games, for the most part that's not true. Gaming is roughly 25 to 50% of what I use my free time for. I ask myself sometimes, "Am I passionate about gaming?" to which I can't really answer myself, I look at other gamers and they dwarf my interest and time spent.
For me gaming started at age 7 or 8 when my dad brought home a commodore 64 and hooked it up to a small tv. At the time we were still overseas in Europe and my dad was in the military so this amazing machine with games I could play seemed really fun. I don't remember playing it much but I do remember being at the YMCA after school asking kids for quarters so I could play Galaga or Pac-Man.
As I grew up I was drawn to PC gaming more than console since my dad already had a PC and we got to work on it together. I remember playing King's Quest III and Wing Commander to F-117 Stealth Fighter. The games I really loved playing and stuck out in my mind are Ultima 6 and 7: the Black Gate as well as Descent and Fallout. I remember playing Warcraft I and Civilization for hours on end as well as one of my fav turn-based strats of all time: MASTER OF ORION to which I still have this day b/c it ups my nerd factor by 1.5%
Although I had a few friends that had a NES, I wasn't allowed to have one and I didn't get a console until SNES but prior to that blah blah blah. Anyways,
I like games of most genres except sports and I enjoy a good FPS like Modern Warefare 2 as much as Fallout 3, Oblivioin or Dragon Age. I do enjoy watching Final Fantasy games, but ever since FF7 I have never been able to go back to FF games. They are all the same to me and I can't handle any more effeminate EMO anime heroes saving the world. I'm happy with Cloud. :)
