The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition (XBLA)

I think I was hoping for a bit more or perhaps I'm just older now and don't have the level of patience I used to. Monkey Island is definitely fantastic as always and the writing is humorous and engaging.

There are a few nitpicks that bothered me sufficiently to keep me from really enjoying it. One of those being Part 3 where the topological map gave no hint to the places I needed to go to and thus making it into either a pixel hunting game or my resorting to hints.

Having said that, the built-in hint system is a great addition to any adventure game ;)

  • The only exposure I've had to this series is with the one title on the PS2 (The 4th game perhaps?) And I enjoyed that one so I have to admit that I was excited for this one. Sadly it's flawed and just isn't all that funny by todays standards.

The graphics are pretty clean but because of the control setup I found myself switching to the old school graphics often. See, the controls either use the d-pad (which is shoddy to begin with) to shift through the types of actions. Most…

  • Another classic reborn on XBLA. Everything here is upgraded, the graphics, the wonderful music, interface. As a bonus, at the touch of a button you can swap between the remake and the original as often as you like!

One of the best adventure games ever made, Monkey Island still impresses with its unique style and multiple puzzle solutions.

  • As a kid I played tons of point & click adventure games, but they were all Sierra games (King's Quest, Space Quest, etc.). I never got to play any of the Lucas Arts games except for The Dig for some reason, and it's a real treat to be able to play such excellent titles in one of the best remakes that I've yet seen. It's incredibly true to the original and adds just the right amount of features and upgrades to not ruin the game, rather it makes…

  • Such a brilliant remake of one of the best point and click puzzlers of all time. The new artwork is fantastic and I love how you can seamlessly switch between the special and classic versions of the game. The controls work very well, although skipping through dialogue sometimes doesn't work, even if you're holding down Y. Hopefully they'll see how well this game has done and start work on Monkey Island 2: Special Edition

  • I remember hearing about this game briefly as a child- but not enough to actually be interested. Years passed, and I read about it as a young teenager. I really wanted the chance to play it, but knew it would be a hard fine. Now, as a 360 owner- I'm able to play the long awaiting game I've yearned to have for years! It's totally worth the download. The update on the graphics are awesome. Plus, whenever you want you can switch to old-school mode. I really enjoy the voice…

  • A great-looking remake of one of the best point-and-click adventure games of all time. The voice acting is terrific, although I didn't think Stan's voice fit his character at all. It had been so long since I'd played the original, that I had to re-learn some of the puzzles. I truly hope the point-and-click adventure game makes a comeback.

  • this is the start of the summer of the arcade for me, and i couldn't be happier. apparently back in 1990 there was an adventure game that came out called The Secret of Monkey Island. then apparently in 2009 there was an adventure game that came out called The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition. this is a classic point and click action game with plenty of click able tomfoolery. the humor of the original shines through in spades in this re make with the help of wonderful voice acting,…
