Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (XBLA)

Symphony of the Night was an important milestone of the Castlevania series. It steered the series away from the standard more » level-by-level platforming formula of older titles and introduced a new style of open-ended gameplay mixed with RPG-like elements that would be emulated by most of its successors. A similar, earlier form of this type of gameplay existed in Castlevania II: Simon's Quest. The development of these features can be attributed to Koji Igarashi, the game's director and one of the team's newest members. Igarashi, a noted fan of 2D games,[1] was instrumental in refining the game's control scheme. He also established a seemingly official Castlevania canon, in an attempt to tie up several loose ends in the series' time line during Symphony of the Night.[2] Other notable staff include character designer Ayami Kojima and composer Michiru Yamane. « less

This game is awesome. It's got a classic Dracula backstory behind it, a gigantic castle to explore, and combines action gameplay seamlessly with adventure exploring and RPG character building that will keep you busy for a long time.

I really enjoyed castlevania games growing up but wouldn't spend all day playing one till this fine gem came along. Then days melted into weeks, I really liked this game. this game set a standard that the nice castlevania games follow on the DS.

A game that has stood the test of time. Over ten years on, and Symphony of the Night still entertains, and still provides a complex challenge. And for those who played the PSX version; the good news is that this version is now packed with all the features that were Saturn exclusives.
