Living in the seemingly peaceful kingdom of Guardia in 1000 A.D more »., the child Crono was chosen by guardian spirits to save the world from ultimate devastation. Though Doomsday will not happen until the year 1999, the ancient seeds of destruction were planted long ago the the evil LAVOS. Your mission in the world of Chrono Trigger is to travel back and forth through time to change the course of history, and stop LAVOS from succeeding in his dark plan. On your journey, you will battle monsters and meet many helpful people in both the past and the future. This game has a lot of memories attached to it. This was one of my first RPG experiences, and the first one I remember beating. While the game has aged a good amount over the years, it's still very widely known and very respected. The element of time travel was great at the time because no one had really used it. I think this was a good year for Square Soft, because so many great games had followed soon after.

I do not even know where to begin with this review. This is one of the top 5 RPGs of all time, for all consoles. This is arguably the peak of what Squaresoft has ever released, with a dream team that they will never have again.

It was the perfect package. Fantastic graphics for the time it was released, with amazing spell effects, and environmental effects such as layer 7 fog and speed when racing. Water effects, spacial effects, cloud effects, it had everything that could be done at the time.

Absolutely one of the best games I own/have ever played (and I have played almost everything out there). It was so far ahead of its time for an RPG. They really couldn't have made the game better.

The first time I played this game I ended up pwning myself because I breezed through without leveling up because I was so enthralled with the story. I got to the end with just a few dual techs and NO triple techs. It's almost needless to say, but Lavos delivered a very punishing beat down. I used all my healing items and once those were gone, I was left to watch as my entire party was slowly... relentlessly... and mercilessly killed by degrees. And once Chrono, himself, fell, I let…

"Wow. Thats about all I can really say. Arguably the best SNES game of all time, as well as one of the best RPGs in existence. Amazing story? Check. Well-developed, creative characters? Double check. Great music? Check. Great battle system? Check? Great graphics? Check. Replay value? Check. Nearly 15 different endings? Check. Beyond epic. It is difficult to try and think of anything wrong about this game...or even anything that could be improved. A must-own SNES RPG that has multiple endings and is replayable. Yasunori Mitsuda's music makes this game much more enjoyable.

Water effects, spacial effects, cloud effects, it had everything that could be done at the time. The world was truly alive and the music was haunting and memorable in each zone. The first time you set foot in the future world the music drove home the hopelessness of the people who lived there, if you could consider it living. Every key character had their own song that truly made you think of that character, and they were so memorable and ingrained into the game that near 15 years later anyone who played this game would be able to hear just sections of a song and instantly have memories brought back to them. The game play was a perfect mix of turn based combat combined with being able to choose which battles to instigate in the world. Boss battles were unique and diverse and the amount of party compatibility and customization has barely been matched to this day with duo and rare triple moves. The character interacted together and every single character had truly moving unique stories. There were countless endings from the end of the world, to entirely different evolutionary paths based on actions you would take. There were secrets to be discovered as well. The game truly had everything and I really do know what else to say other than Game Developers need to take a good look into the past at this game and see how little they have improved the genre, if at all. « less
