Years after the events of the first .hack series, "The World" was rebuilt. As a new player, you are saved on your first day in "The World" from several PKs (Player Killers) by a mysterious man. From this day on, you have dedicated your time to hunt down PKs. Word in "The World" is that the legendary PK you have been searching for has surfaced, and you must now set out to find "it". The only offline game that makes you feel like you're playing online. So much fun!

Even if you're not a .hack// aficionado the fast paced action real time combat system makes it worth at least playing the first one. With a vastly improved look and feel over the first cycle of games the GU series has a lot to offer. Managing your own shop, fighting in the arena, and being able to switch between weapons being a few of the draws. The characters are all reasonably deep, possessing their own motivations to be playing the game and acting on them consistently. While it some…

it has a great story line but can only be fallowed if youve seen the anime known ass .Hack//roots so althoug it makes you feel like youre in the anime and in an online game sense it leaves the peopel wh haven seen the anime i give it 4 stars out of 5

The characters are all reasonably deep, possessing their own motivations to be playing the game and acting on them consistently. While it some times puts you at odds with some of your "online" friends it does create a believable MMO-like experience. The story is pretty solid but you don't really get into the juicy parts until Reminisce, the second game. It's fairly original though there are times when inevitable cliche's turn up; Haseo's particularly, since his whole goal is revenge at first. Not really on my list of things everyone needs to play but strongly suggested for RPG fans looking for a different experience. « less
