A good alternative to Oblivion if you have a lower-end PC, if not you should probably spring for oblivion, but eventually play this game after Oblivion, because some of the stuff you will do in Morrowind, Oblivion cant offer, such as Werewolves, etc.

You can easily end up getting yourself another life there, answering something like "Why, Sadrith-Mora, of course!" when people ask you, where are you from...

Very Expansive world, wonderful Lore, generally great gameplay (the physics need work) and the ability to mod make this game something you can play a thousand different ways and always find something new or unique each time.

Do not crucify me for it, but I was disappointed by the game. The vastness of the world and the depth of it (as advertised) was basically too less of butter on too much bread. A true epic RPG classic. Arguably the best entry in the Elder Scrolls series. Touting deeper character development and vastly superior inventory system; one would think Morrowind were the successor to Oblivion, not the other way around.

Be prepared, this isn't like Oblivion. Enemies don't cater themselves to your abilities. Wander into the darkest places, and you'll be given a sound thrashing, but you also won't see any lowly bandits touting daedric swords.

If you liked Oblivion, you owe it to yourself to play Morrowind.
