Pirates! offers players the chance to take on the role of a privateer the Caribbean. From here, the game is pretty much more »up to you. You can get involved in trading, treasure hunting, ship fights, town assaults, duels and all manner of other activities. The game is wonderfully episodic and presents a variety of opportunities to the player based on context. You pick your nationality from Spanish, English, French and Dutch, a starting date, and a special talent, such as sword fighting or ship handling. Once you've created a captain, you're given a ship and a few men and tasked with charting your own course through the waters of the Caribbean and the sometimes stormier sea of European politics. The most well done pirate adventure ever created, Sid Meier's Pirates, lives up to every other game made by Sid Meier's. Pirates is an adventure in which the player can be a pirate sailing with a blood thirsty crew and doing all of the fun things that pirates were famous for. This game is a almost never ending game that adjusts in difficulty as your character ranks up. This is one of my all time favorite games that I will never forget.

I have a bit of an ambivalent relationship with this game. As much fun as it is to play it, in the end, it is bunch of mini-games with a high profile name on the box. All you do is roam around the carribean hitting buttons at the right time and that - is - it.

As much depth as my bathtub, but stil fun. Although I cannot understand the praise it earned from reviewers and gamers alike.
