Taking no credit away from its genre predecessor, Wolfenstein 3-D, DOOM was the breakthrough game of 1993, and the more more »influential of id's first- person shooters. Its arsenal of powerful guns (namely the shotgun and BFG), intense level of gore and perfect balance of adrenaline-soaked action and exploration kept this gamer riveted for years. Initially a shareware product on PC, DOOM also offered the first multiplayer death- matches via LAN. Doom is creepy, atmospheric, with a sense of impending dread that always seems to be just around the next corner or behind that door. There couldn't have been a better name for the game. « less

DOOM changed my life and it changed gaming. Even today, when people maybe play Solitaire or Minesweeper to kill a vacant 10 mins, I play DOOM.

too short in my opinion, but it's not exactly it's in the prime of it's life anymore. When I played it as a kid i hated the traps... thats all i remember from back then about it. lol.

This was the first 3D shooter to capture my attention, I never warmed up to Wolfenstein 3D. This one is a gem though, and is deligtfully macabre and sarcastic which made it stand out from many others of the genre, and many that were to follow. Great !

Great FPS pioneering game. I'd play it again but would miss jumping and free-looking.
