Pokémon Snap (N64)

The premise behind the HAL-developed Pokemon Snap is simple: Players roll through 3D environments (on rails) and try to more »snap the very best possible pictures of various Pokemon characters. The game features seven big levels and more than 60 Pokemon. Adding strategy to the process, players need to accomplish a number of different tasks before certain Pokemon will respond and pose for the camera. For example, in the game's Beach level, Pocket Monster Snorlax sleeps peacefully as players cost by on rails, unable to take a decent picture of the giant Pokemon as he rests on the ground. The only way to wake Snorlax is to play him a song on the Poke Flute, which isn't attainable until much further in the game. Therefore, players must build points, advance a few levels and grab the flute, at which time it's possible to come back to the Beach, play the flute for Snorlax , wake him up and snap an award-winning photo. « less

Pokemon Snap was my first Nintendo 64 game - I got it Christmas Eve and stayed up "really late" (which, at the time, was probably around midnight) playing it. It's a unique game that allows you to interact with Pokemon in a way unlike any other in the series to date - in their natural habitat, just being themselves. You're not there to fight them or try to catch them, you're just there to observe them. (of course, that doesn't mean to say you can't throw them some food…

Didn't like it

I simple on rails shooter with minimal interactivity. Instead of shooting bullets your snapping pictures of pokemon. A nice concept that is in practice far too simple and shallow to appeal to anyone who is not a hard-core pokemon fan or very young.

I had a lot of fun being creative with this game. Being a photographer (who started at the age of four), it gave me this kind of weird imaginative release. I loved poke'mon as a child, and still kinda do, HA! It kinda saddened me how short is was, I can finish this game in just about a half an hour now and the first time I played it, it really only took me like 3 hours. I was kinda hoping for more, and even a sequel. However, with…

A fun and very unique game, but much too short. I beat this game the day it was released, and had pictures of every Pokemon within 2-3 days. There is definitely some replay value in trying to get high scores for all the Pokemon and getting all of the special events to occur, but the game still doesn't offer the amount of depth you would expect from a Pokemon game.
