With the exception of the airship fights and the graded battles, Nostalgia does not innovate much beyond genre roots. It covers familiar territory, although I recognize that to some gamers, the 8- and 16-bit RPG formula may be hallowed ground. But with such a fresh setting, it was ultimately disappointing to see Nostalgia rely on such creaky -- but functional -- ideas like random encounters and basic turn-based battles.
