With the innovative use of the Nintendo DS stylus, players will be able to immerse themselves into the building and creating process.You assume the role of young hero Lock as he defends his homeland from the imminent attack of robotic invaders. As an Archineer -- part architect, part engineer -- Lock uses his skills to build new structures around the sacred Source Artifacts with the ultimate goal of protecting them from infiltrators. Players can utilize different materials such as stone, metal, or wood to create and design defense towers in the battle field. I generally bear a cool disposition toward games of this type, but the variety and customization aspects of Lock's Quest make it so much more playable than your average Flash-based "Do This and Sit" stock. Action sequences keep your fingers busy while taking out any frontlines and the option of building and fixing your ramparts between waves adds an element of action to an already unusually frantic strategy flow. It's an evolution in the genre on dual levels. Pretty refreshing, actually.

The one thing about this game that I could honestly criticize is the story; even before the first stage was over, the narrative had hit multiple spaces on the JRPG Bingo card with almost effortless gusto. Other than that, though, this game makes for pretty keen DS architecture. « less
