  As this is only a demo, I don't want to give it too much credit, but I will say this for the multiplayer: They have eliminated the much hated spawn camping kills by allowing the playing to either "drop in" near his squad, or pick his drop point via the mini map in the prespawn/loadout scre more »en. Pretty ingenious really. You've seen it in games and movies before, but in SECTION 8 you actually do the drop in for each respawn. I also enjoy the jetpack jumping and the hyperdrive sprinting. The lock on system also seemed to work fairly well and I appreciate that you can lock on with all the weapons. I also like the "repair tools/repair points" from certain character classes or the supply drops that restored your health on the fly. The one real low point for me was the overall weapon selection, as they were all pretty just, well..."meh". I'm really looking forward to the full game and hope that the actual story mode is well done and that the this isn't a game focusing completely on the multiplayer experience like UNREAL TOURNAMENT 3, where the story mode is just multiplayer with bots. « less

  The Section 8 demo is a game that seems quite familiar and yet it is so different. The demo consists of one level with one game type. This is all the demo needed to get the point across. When you join a game you choose to play as either Section 8, or The Arm of Orion. There is only a cosmetic di more »fference between the two however. The map in the demo has two bases for either one or both teams to capture. Capturing is a simple as pushing and few buttons and waiting. Bases can be seized by the enemy at any time. The thing that keeps this game fresh and new is the respawning system. The game allows you to respawn in any location on the map. Once you choose your respawn point, you will drop down to the ground in a similar fashion to an ODST from Halo. This creates some interesting attack strategies for your squad. The game stays balanced however, with the fact that enemy bases have AA turrets that will shoot you down if you get too close. This prevents the enemy from dropping into your base on every respawn without having to do some leg work and taking out your AA turrets first. As for actual combat, the game has a very Sci-fi feel to it. The standard fare of weapons are there. Machine guns, shotguns, rocket launchers, etc. The game has 6 classes that are preset, or you can alter one of them to fit your play style. You can carry two weapons and two pieces of equipment at anytime. Equipment ranges from a knife to grenades or to a healing mechanism that heals players and turrets and other buildings. This gives a lot of diversity in play style. Additionally, you can assign 10 points that can do things like increase your armor endurance, shield capacity, or running speed. As far as health is concerned, you have a shield bar and a life bar. Another interesting feature is the fact that you can lock on to people when aiming down your sites for a limited time. It only lasts for a few seconds, depending on your lock on time upgrades. It then has to recharge. While it may sound cheap, the lock on is balanced enough that it doesn't seem to break the game. You may fell cheaped out when a guy across the map locks on with his sniper rifle and gets on lucky shot, but it still stays fun all the way through. You also gain personal money that you can use during the battle. You can call in a pod to supply you and change your load-out, or summon a giant mech to help you turn the tide of battle. Another interesting feature is the fact that little side missions will pop up in the middle of the battle. It can be as simple as escorting a VIP to your base, or as awesome as driving a convoy right into the enemy lines for extra points. To win a match a team gains points for killing enemy soldiers, partaking in extra missions, capturing enemy bases, etc. The first team to 1000 wins. Matches can take about 10-15 minutes to complete on average. Having said all this, Section 8 is not without some faults. The game has some issues with lag, you can't just choose to host a game, and you can't choose what team you want to be on. My verdict on Section 8, is to download it. It is a very addictive demo that definitely is fun to play. « less
