PGR 4 is fun. Plain and simple. The graphics are nice, the career is great, and the interior views are the best I've seen. It's got a lot of modes, including the semi-free roaming 'Tourist' and 'Bulldog' modes. The graphics are perfect (minus a few paint effects); some to the point where the cars look very real! XBL multiplayer is great, with team and solo modes, PLUS tournaments. Overall, I think this game deserves a 90-95, not an 85.
PGR 4 is a fun arcade racer, but lacks the polish of previous iterations. The menu system leaves something to be desired, the career mode is not very good, and the addition of motorcycles falls a bit flat. However, the fundamentals of PGR remain intact. It's still wickedly fun to drift. There are elements, such as the new garages and the implementation of the career mode, that seem half-hearted. While it's hard to imagine Bizarre Creations wouldn't put its full effort behind PGR 4, there's a definite lack of polish that was not an issue with previous iterations. Nonetheless, PGR 4 is one of the better arcade racers on 360. It just doesn't do enough new things right to push the series in a positive direction.
Really addictive and fun racing game. One of the most beautiful menu-gui. Awesome physics that are more arcade, than simulation (but have a bit of both).
This is probably the last PGR game will we see, due to corporate chair shifting. Probably a good thing, as PGR 4 leaves the series on a high note. Responsive controls, compulsive Kudos collecting and just a really sweet balance between arcade and realistic physics. Gold Class.
A TON of improvements over PGR3! Bikes have been added, weather physics are very realistic now with puddles and ice patches on the tracks, and the story mode is much more fun with a calender career and an arcade mode. Any fans of the third game should definitely pick this one up.
Graphics are much nicer in this one. Rain/Snow effects are very realistic and visceral. When driving in the cockpit view you'll notice that the interiors are very detailed and that when it's raining, the window wipers are on. It's aesthetics are very nice.
The gameplay has been improved in a few ways. The weather actually effects your vehicle and if it's raining/snowing, puddles/ice patches will appear on sections of the track. They really affect your car. Ice will make it hard for you to turn and slow down, whereas puddles will cause you to slide and you'll need to counter-steer to regain control. The story mode has changed with a "Gotham Career Mode" and "Arcade" mode. Gotham Career is different racing seasons which you will follow in chronological order. Everything is displayed through a neat little calender making it easy to keep track of where you are and what you have to do next. Arcade mode will just give you mini-championships that you will complete. They're usually themed around a couple specific types of races or vehicle. For example, one of the arcade championships is only motorcycles. Speaking of motorcycles, they're a great addition to the series in that they handle like you'd imagine they would. They're difficult to get used to but if you get good with them, you'll have no trouble placing 1st in events. There is a vast selection of cars and bikes in this one but instead of having multiple garages in PGR3, you select your cars from a list. You now buy your cars in packs instead of separately. So instead of buying one specific car, you have to buy 4 or 5 others along with it. You purchase everything with your "Kudos" which you've earned from completing races and doing things during the races such as drifting and drafting.
All in all a great game, definitely worth a purchase if you're a racing fan.
