  • This may be one of the most underrated games I've ever played.

The gameplay itself is unique and very enjoyable. The story is a bit muddled and isn't exactly gripping but the sheer enjoyment you get from playing this game is enough to make up for that. For such a unique control scheme, the learning curve isn't very high. Once you nail the basics you'll be good to go.

Mirror's Edge does a lot of things right. The graphics are crisp and refreshing. Excellent sound effects and a great soundtrack are present too. I just wish the story was more engaging. Hopefully we'll see a better effort in that department for the sequel.

  • I have to admit it Mirror's Edge's art direction always had me interested. Sure the first person platforming gameplay was really interesting and proved to be potentialy fun from the demo, but the game was just pure eye candy.

And I have to admit thats largely what compelled me to get this and in the end was the only part I really liked. Not to say the game isn't good, but it takes a lot of commitment to really get the most out of this game. The game is all about the flow, trying to find a good path to your destination and executing the best maneuvers to get there.

This can be hard as the game really never tries to hard to point out a good let alone the best path to getting to your destination. with the press of the B button your view will imidiatly go to the destination but not the path. So if you are walking and decide to press the B button to see where you need to go, prepare for disorientation as it's not rare that you immediately face a wall where on the other side in the destination.

The game has what is called runner vision where key objects to getting to the destination are red, but these are alot less common than they are in the first level and it typically only objects that are near by so they don't exactly point you to the right direction until your already on your way.

Another issue is the combat. Every now and then you'll be faced with armed enemies. Individually these guys aren't much of a problem but later when you can be up against the likes of squads, it can be frustrating even on easy difficulty. While you're encouraged to avoid confrontation all together, it's difficult when you may not know where you need to go and frantically looking while being shot at.

Theres hand to hand combat which is mainly just about repeatedly pressing the right trigger in the enemies face until they die and theres shooting which isn't much different than most games. You don't start any level carrying weapons so you have to disarm enemies in order to obtain guns, which can be more difficult than it should be. In order to disarm you have to press the Y button just at the right time while someone is trying to melee you in close range combat or sneak up from behind and press Y. While it may not sound hard, the opportunity to stealth disarm someone is rarely presented. Slow-mo help make frontal disarms a bit more easy, but often times when you do slow mo it's just frustrating as guys around you just slowing shoot you up while your trying to disarm some guy. You shouldn't carry guns since it limits your mobility and you can't even reload.

The controls are also some what awkward. Your main actions such as jumping, crouching and climbing are mapped to the left bumper and trigger. The trigger for lower based actions, the bumper for higher actions. Stringing high and low actions can be uncomfortable on the 360 controller. Most people I know, myself include just uses their index finger to pres both of these button, so it's hard to press one quickly after and another. A solution could be to use your middle finger to use the trigger, but this isn't comfortable.

For people who play shooters regularly Mirror's Edge can be annoying. You can't reload your gun and if you try out of habit you'll likely accidentally activate slow-mo. Same for trying to activate context sensitive actions. And unfortunately you can't customize the controls. You can select different control schemes, but there aren't any control schemes that resemble any other game.

Mirror's Edge has a campaign mode that isn't very long(what game is now a day?). You'll likely find that once you've finally started getting comfortable with the game it's already over. Aside from campaign though there are time trials where you make your way to check points in recycled pieces of campaign levels. And you can do speed runs of the campaign levels. While it's not a whole lot fortunately the game is significantly cheaper than it was at launch. You can find it as cheap as thirty dollars now.

Really, Mirror's edge is most fun when you've got levels memorized and good paths figured out. In other words, to get the most out of this game you need to play each level over and over again. So in some ways it's kind of old school.

Mirror's Edge isn't a bad game. It just require lots of dedication to get to the fun part. It's rare I ever ask this, but DICE, please dumb it down a bit for us normal human being next time. the game is all about flow but it's hard to keep the experience smooth when you don't know exactly where to go and when confrontations with the enemy is so frustrating.

  • I loved this game alot. Very original and a full take on the theme. Other games may have some PKing but its not that much dependent on. The game does have its drawbacks from time to time, but when you practice, you will learn to complete any obstacle. The game is very short, but is only extended with DLC and the challenges that is recorded. Lack of multiplayer is accepted. This game is not for everyone, so dont expect too much from it if your more of an allegiance to hardcore gaming. This game is for the casual, action adventurer, rush, types, and those who probably experienced Parkour before. I dont recommend buy, but a rent is good thing. Replayability is low, and really if your up to it.

  • What an amazing game! The story is probably one of the worst I've ever seen. However, where the story lacked, it made up for phenomenal gameplay!

  • Finaly, a game that does not revolve around guns. I really like this game because of the fast-paced action and very good graphics. However, the campaign is short: at around 5.5-6 hours on average. Also, controls are hard to get a hold of at first, but once the user get the hang of it, the game plays it's self. If you don't mind not using a gun and parkour is your thing, get this game.

  • Good fun jumping over buildings, wasn't a huge fan of the artistic style though.

  • The game is unlike any other game out there. I was really into the fast pace and quick actions you had to maneuver. Definitely worth a try!

  • Really enjoy this game, only problem is that it is so short, but don't let that spoil it does test your brain a lot when you have to work out where to go next, sometimes it can be quite obvious and at others, it can be hard. After completing the game you want to go back on to it and complete it on hard difficulty, when you do all the objects no longer go red which would make it slightly harder if you didn't already know where to go. All in all this is a brilliant game, and I recommend this to anyone who enjoys free running styled games.

  • Very Enjoyable experience. It's like a fast paced puzzle game. Figure out how the pieces fit and you don't die. there are some moments when it gets a little frustrating (and that could just be my lack of skill) but overall great game.
