This game was a big disappointment for me as it was the game i wanted the most in the 08 holiday season and it was a big let down the single player was boring and the multiplayer i thought wud be much improved but its just the same multiplayer with 1 player more on each team... horde mode is good for a time then that gets old... matchmaking for online is not very good either...
wud of given this a 1 star but horde mode was pretty fun so 2/5

number 2 in my personal all time top 10 (gta san andreas is nr. 1), just love 3rd person games, vibe is spot on, over the top, aliens are really ugly, just love it, can't wait for gears 3 -
Gears of War 2 is an improvement over the first version. It uses the Unreal engine in amazing ways. I'm really enjoying it -

The single player (or co-op) campaign is extremely enjoyable. The settings are much bigger and even more epic than the first game. The new bullet trails are a cool addition and the final level when you're fighting in the captial is breathtaking. The game is worth it purchase price (...now probably around $30) just for the campaign alone.
The multiplayer is fun, but as many people have stated it has it's fair share of problems. Most of these problems have been addressed but it happened too far… -
Bad acting (voices), slow gameplay (these armors look really heavy), and repetitive cover-shoots... and having said that, for some reasons it's a lot of fun to play. In fact the game is really impressive and it's among the best shooters I've ever played. I didn't try the multiplayer mode yet, but the story-mode alone is fun enough to buy this game. -

It's alright. Dont like the speed of it and the golden lancer from the special edition makes it stupid. But horde mode is a awsome edition to gears of war and the story mode is the best i ever played. I would definatly buy it if you havent already

One word describes Gears of War 2......ADDICTIVE. There is no comparison to this game. They've changed online game play completely by adding Horde into the mix. With map packs, extra game content, and more weapons. This is a game you can play for years let alone days or weeks. If you don't have this game, you are missing out on the evolution of the shooter genre as we know it. -
An absolute blast to play. Co-op campaign and Horde are excellent fun. Takes a lot of advantage of getting rid of the stupid first-person view that most games of this kind would be in. The feel of the weapons, the sound effects, the level design, the variety.. the control - all of these are top notch. A great game I'd recommend to anyone. The let downs are the fact that Versus mode is a bit of an unbalanced pure-twitch-fest where very few of the fun elements of fighting the CPU… -
Broken, laggy online play, laughably bad voice acting in single player. Stupid, unlikeable characters. Dumb story, and clunky, busted gameplay make Gears 2 awful! How does this game score AAA? Gunplay is weak too! Garbage game, I totally wasted the $40 I spent for this game.

Easily one of the best shooters and video games ever. Intense, nonstop, bloody action until the very end of the game. Music and sound design is topnotch, as are the graphics, the gameplay and overall design of the game, though the final boss is disappointing and the campaign is a little short. However, there are plenty of online and multiplayer options to play, along with extra modes and other downloadable content.
