The graphics and audio effects are awesome. This game keeps you on the edge of your seat. You never know what's lurking around the corner. -
Probably the best "survival-horror" game to date. The atmosphere instills terror very early on and somehow manages to "one up" itself continuously through the game. The story is solid and keeps you emerged. Voice acting is superb, graphics are top notch. The only complaint that most have is with the controls. Which didn't seem to bother me at all. Think Resident Evil 5, but with the ability to move and fire at the same time. All in all one, if not the greatest Survival Horror game I have ever played.… -
I haven't played it too much yet, but the other reviewers are correct... graphically the game looks excellent. The lighting is fantastic, the game is very atmospheric and the sound alone will have you looking in dark corners with your flashlight all the time. I imagine the game would sound just incredible via surround sound. But the game can get a bit hard here and there, especially on the harder difficulty levels, I was getting frustrated. I had very low expectations going into this title but boy, am I impressed. Graphically, it still holds its own heading into 2010 and the sound throughout is superb. It's truly pivotal in creating much of the vibe you get playing it and admittedly, I've had a few real anxious moments based on nothing but the sound at times. Brilliantly played, I look forward to finishing this game and I'm psyched for the next one to inevitably be released. -

Some reviews really annoy you, yes it's all about opinion and sometimes games that you thought would be good turn out to be rubbish. However to play the game for 15 minutes and turned it off because 'the character moved like a boat' in a game with a normal person (not superhero/machine) is ridiculous!
It's a survival horror, he isn't superman, or buzz lightyear (or whatever characters you like), it didn't say 'Prototype' on package.
I'd expect that comment from someone who played Ironman for the first time, now there's a… -
15 minutes in and I had to stop. For a shooter type of game is handles like crap and your character moves like a boat. -
I rented this as I was bored, and felt like playing something horrorish. Turns out this is an excellent game. -

Very well made, nearly flawless. From graphics to audio effects, everything is at its right place. Very scary at some moments, and always entertaining. Item looting RE-style can be annoying at times, but the beautifulness of this (ultra-gory) game will make you forget every little bug-imprecision! -
Although it's an overused term in video game reviews, I can't find anything word better than "atmospheric" to describe Dead Space. As you explore a creature infested space station, expect to hear a ton of incredible sound effects intended to scare the pants off of you. The game relies heavily on suspense building and jump scares to make you nervous as you turn every corner. The inventory menu does not pause the game, so you will always feel vulnerable. Really awesome game. -
WOW...that was a lot of fun! I haven't jumped that much since the first Silent Hill. Add surround sound in a pitch black room and your ready for one freaky ass night. Filled with dismemberment and adrenaline as you go looking franticly for more ammo cause those f**kers don't go down easy. BRUTAL! -
The BEST horror game I have ever played. I was afraid it would be another crappy sci-fi shooter, but I was wrong and I'm glad I was. I have played through the game 4-5 times, and it still scares me! The atmosphere is amazing. Graphics are beautiful. I loved the necromorphs. Isaac is a very likable main character even though he doesn't speak. Replay value is very high if you want to play on each mode and upgrade all your equipment. Highly recommended. I think all horror fans need to… -
This was one of the best scary games that I've played in a looong time! I like that they have things that jump out at you from the dark, upgradable weapons, and armor. I like the mini games but I really like that you don't HAVE to play the mini games to progress the story. =)
