O Hay.

The name's Josh and I've been gaming for nearly 16 years. For as long as I can remember all I've done is play video games. I started off on Windows 3.1 (O YEEEAH) playing Asteroids and Tanks, as well as the old SEGA MegaDrive (Genesis) and slowly moved my way up through the consoles (having never owned a PS1 or NES), I've finally reached the PS3 and Wii. A Sony fanboy at heart, I'm still open to console debates, and find it entertaining listening to the ill-informed rants over the past couple of years. I lol'd many times.

I usually go for highly cinematic action games but have been one to go into psychological horrors such as Rule of Rose and Silent Hill (but not often). I'm on my PS3 a lot of the time, so feel free to add me on PSN.

I'm also a Mac-man, much to many of my friends' displeasure. I own a Mac mini as well as 80GB iPod Classic and 8GB iPhone 3G. I simply adore OS X and what it has to offer. Fag? Try it for yourself and you'll see what I mean. Besides, only cool kids use Macs. Trufax.

Having once been the social outcast at school for being the 'nerdy' one, the internet has slowly allowed others to get down to my level of nerdyness and now at University, I can completely unravel the inner gamer, hopefully ending with a degree in Computer Graphics, Vision and Games. Watch out industry, I'm coming, and with some interesting ideas!

      What can I actually say about Wet? Other than the clear and blatant failed attempt at a 'stylish' and 'cinematic' video game. I honestly don't know where to start with the faults within this abortion of a video game. After seeing the blurb of the game on PSN, I thought I was honestly in for a tre more »at. Action-packed gameplay with coveted slo-mo and acrobatics; what fan of the genre could say no? After about ten minutes into the demo, I know I could. NO! Fellow gamer Frostmourn and I tattled on about this game, and how it lacks a lot of functionality, and actual direction. So I might as well start from the beginning. 1. Story - Now, I play a LOT of demos. How else would I know what I want to buy? But in this case, there is absolutely no explanation as to what is going on in the game. Character introductions are merely placed in bold text on the screen. No back-story, nothing. 2. Gameplay - This is a mix of broken controls, out-of-time action sequences, and piss-poor aim. Games like John Woo's Stranglehold managed to captivate the genre and its audience well with simple flowing acrobatics, ammo conservation and an excellent dialogue. These are the things that Wet profoundly lacks. Wall running is a diabolical affair at the best of times, with no real satisfaction to the player. In order to start the slow motion sequences, one must actually start firing the gun (which doesn't even have an ammo counter). Games that contain 'unlimited' ammunition often cause the gamer to get lazy, lack in aim, and simply fire at everything and hope they hit something. It's not something to promote in a video game that looks like it should actually contain at least a minute amount of skill. Wet also completely milks the slow motion. Yes, it's meant to be slow, but not near on fucking paused! I found myself getting very bored with how slow the character was moving. Obstacles can easily get in the way of what should have been an 'awesome' acrobatic movement, but instead you cancel out of it and simply land right next to the enemy, taking a barrage of bullets. The camera wasn't overly bad but moved slowly in conjunction with the character, skewing the view somewhat, also annoying the hell out of me. 3. Controls - A good cinematic video game should be able to actively accomplish everything with the use of at most three buttons. However, Wet uses pretty much every bloody button on the controller. The player soon finds themselves frantically button-bashing, trying to eliminate all of the enemies. Sword attacks are clunky and meaningless, with simple predetermined movements. Nothing exceptionally cinematic in my eyes. 4. Graphics - This is something that shouldn't be so heavily criticised because the gameplay is usually more important, but due to gameplay being less interesting than pasta-filled vomit, I might as well mention graphics anyway. With the PS3 having been out for a while now, I'd have expected the graphics to be a little more interesting. Once again I was let down with average artwork and animation. It's really nothing that caught my eye. Rugged edges and poor textures really let the game down. I'm going to have to admit, however, this game was developed by a company I am not familiar with, but I honestly cannot forgive Bethesda for actually endorsing this game and publishing it. Something like this should stay what it's trying so hard to be; a movie. Piss-poor effort guys. Stop trying to copy Stranglehold and do something a little more original. I've played too many games that have managed to accomplish what you've failed at. This is probably one of the worst games I've ever played. I strongly URGE players to try the demo out and see just exactly what I am trying to say. If you like it, then go ahead and buy it. However, I still believe this game to be supremely under-average. « less
