  First and foremost, if you go into this expecting an improved version of the original Mass Effect you'll be greatly disappointed. Don't get me wrong, it's a great game but Bioware made sure that it appealed to a much wider audience this time around. Much of the features that made Mass Effect gre more »at got chopped in the sequel. Item management has been reduced the most. Instead of picking up weapons and armor for every kill, you now only get a new weapon once every couple of missions. The only way you get new armor or guns is to find them, and you can only upgrade them, usually using the lab in the Normandy to research them. Infinite ammo is also gone, instead you have to collect heat syncs that enemies drop. Exploration is no longer and option either. Aside from the few dark corners in certain locations you won't be exploring anything. Every map in every mission is very cut and dry, that path is set and there's nothing else to do aside from the mission. Only larger areas like Omega or the Citadel allow you to actually look around, and usually all you find are shops to buy things. The only real exploration you do is finding unexplored planets and sending out mining probes to mine for metals to use for upgrades. It's very tedious and boring. The amount and control over your powers have also decreased. Now, each character has only a few powers to wield and one extra after you gain that persons loyalty. Once you use a power, it disables ALL powers for that character until the power you used reloads. When you level up your powers you only have four levels of improvement and each costs one more point than the previous. Which is a problem considering you only get XP after finishing certain missions, yes, that means no XP for killing anything. Which takes away the joy of taking down more powerful enemies by hand. The game is beautiful don't get me wrong, but it's a neutered version of Mass Effect 1. The voice acting is as great as ever, and the environments have improved greatly, but that doesn't make up for the fact that the gameplay has been reduced to mindless "mission-cutscene-mission" format and the missions themselves are nothing more than fighting waves of minions followed by a mini boss. It's a must play game but this would be a better buy once it drops to $39. EDIT: SPOILERS: After playing the game I've come to realize just how much of a waste of money it really is. When you take in account the ACTUAL story missions, the game clocks in at around 3-4 hours. A vast majority of the game is spent on recruiting your team, loyalty missions, mining and so on. All these things really have little to no impact on the story whatsoever. All the recuits really have no interest in your mission anyhow, they're along just because you have sway over them or because Cerberus purchased their help. Compared to the first game, there really is no common thread that holds the team together. Compared to the first game, there's no looming intergalactic doom that will effect every alien species, this time it effects only humanity and nobody seems to care. You end up feeling like more of an errand boy than an intergalactic hero. And the end bad guy is a giant skeleton that spits lasers. Seriously Bioware, in your infinite wisdom you chose a giant human skeleton as the end badguy? Judging by the end cutscene why were the Collectors even building it if the Reapers were already on their way and in full force? « less

  Easily the best shooter I've ever played. There are no surefire tactics or camping in this game. Teamwork, communication and proper use of your surroundings are your only allies. With realistic physics, destructable environments and parachuting, this game is unbeatable. Suck it MW2.
